Paul Smith Black

For Spring Summer 2011 Paul Smith Black focuses on clean, elegant lines mixed with vivid hues and strong graphics. Offering lean, feminine shapes in lightweight fabrics and contoured silhouettes, the collection explores the manipulation of print and colour by using complex techniques to filter and distort.

With a foundation of soft and modern textures, the array of print and colour effects offer depth and dimension to fluidity and drape. Incorporating an exploding floral print, taken from a photograph of English roses captured by Paul, that has pixilation techniques applied to generate a feeling of charged vigour.

Key looks are simple and stylish, A-line and pleated skirts draw attention to the waist and a core wool story sees sculpted tailoring with nipped in middles and longer line jackets. Slouchy blouses in silk georgette are combined with tightly fitting pencil skirts or slim stretch cigarette pants. A brushed zebra stripe adds a surge of colour to monochrome block stripes. Feather border prints adorn strapless dresses, bustier tops and tulip-shaped skirts.
